Several recent Missouri accidents have resulted in injuries for those involved.

Two separate accidents that occurred last week left three individuals injured.

A local woman riding a scooter was injured in a collision with a truck on Monday, September 23.

Tammy Price was driving her scooter and she pulled directly into the path of a pickup truck at Seventh Street and St. Joe Drive in Park Hills. The accident happened just before 4 p.m. Price sustained moderate injuries in the accident and needed to be transported by Air Evac to a hospital in St. Louis.

The other driver was not injured in the accident.

Another accident, later that same Monday, in the afternoon left a motorcyclist injured. The accident happened at Route O and Hillsboro Road around 3:15 p.m.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Robert McCorkle, 66, of Park Hills, was driving his 2005 Harley Davidson westbound when another vehicle, a 2004 Ford Expedition driven by Joseph A. Pasziewicz, 78, of Arnold, pulled in front of him in an attempt to make a right turn onto Route O. McCorkle sustained moderate injuries in the crash that ensued and he was transported to Mineral Area Regional Medical Center by ambulance.

The other driver was not injured in the accident.

An accident that occurred the previous afternoon left one person injured. The Sunday afternoon crash took place around 12:45 near Roberts Lane Scotty W. Howell, 28, of Park Hills, was attempting to negotiate a curve on Mitchell Road near Roberts Lane. He was driving a 1999 Dodge Durango. But he failed to successfully make the turn, lost control of his vehicle which went off of the road, then struck a woodpile, slammed into a backhoe, and then crashed into a trailer.

Jaymie M. Crump, 25, of Desloge, was a passenger in the vehicle driven by Howell and was injured in the accident and had to be transported by ambulance to Parkland Health Center North.

Both Howell and Crump were not wearing seatbelts, according to the police report.

Accidents occur frequently on Missouri roads. Some happen because people are careless or are distracted. Other accidents occur because of road or weather conditions, or drivers are speeding or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Missouri roads are highly trafficed and drivers should be extra diligent and always wear seatbelts.

Motorcyclists are at an increased risk of sustaining serious injuries in a crash and accidents are more likely to be fatal for motorcyclists because they have less protection from their vehicles than drivers of passenger vehicles do.
