Why People Run Red Lights
As mentioned above, people are often just in a hurry to get to their destination. Often, drivers run a red light that has “just barely” turned red. Some try to beat the yellow light and misjudge the timing.
Drivers who are speeding simply cannot stop in time. This involves a separate violation. Speeding reduces stopping time, resulting in a higher risk of running a red. They either slam on their brakes and get hit from behind or fly through the intersection, hoping no one is in it. There is a risk of getting it wrong in both scenarios and causing a catastrophic accident. This makes speeding dangerous for at least these two reasons.
However, sometimes running a red light has nothing to do with a deliberate decision to ignore the traffic signal. Some of these other reasons include:
- Distracted driving
- Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Not paying attention
- Reckless driving
Regardless of the reason, if you’re hit by a driver who ran a red light, you deserve to receive compensation for your injuries and damages.
